Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

• Account details: your name, email address, and profile picture. You give these when you sign up.
• Your resumes: the PDF files you upload, the details read from them, your edits, and your test reports.
• Job descriptions: the text you paste, or the job you pick, to test your resume against a job.
• Job search: the job titles and places you search for, and the jobs you save in the Job Tracker with their status.
• Application answers: what you enter on the Auto Apply page, such as work authorization, salary expectation, and notice period.
• Applications: the jobs in your Auto Apply list, the questions of each application form, the answers prepared for them, and whether the application was sent.
• Cover letters and interview practice: the letters written for you, the practice questions, your answers, and the feedback on them.
• Usage: how many tests and job searches you have run. We use this for the limits of the plans.
• Payment details: your plan and its status. Your card details go to the payment provider. We never see or store them.

2. How we use it

• To read your resume, test it, and write the fixes you ask for.
• To build the PDF you preview and download.
• To find jobs for you, and to show which of your skills a job mentions.
• To write cover letters, practice questions, and feedback from your resume and a job.
• To read an application form, prepare your answers, and send the form after you approve it.
• To run your account and your plan.
• To keep the service secure and to fix errors.
• We do not sell your data, and we do not use your resumes for advertising.

3. AI processing

The text of your resume and of the job is sent to our AI provider to read the resume, run the test, and write fixes, cover letters, practice questions, and feedback. For Auto Apply, the questions of the application form and your application answers are sent too. The AI provider handles this text only to answer the request.

The test result and the interview feedback are opinions made by software. They do not decide anything about you, and they are not shown to employers.

Answers that AI prepares for an application are shown to you first. They are sent only if you approve them.

4. Who we share it with

We share data only with the services that run ResumeTester:

• Clerk: sign-up, login, and billing. Payments are handled by Clerk and its payment partner, Stripe.
• Z8Data: storage of your files, your resume details, and your reports.
• OpenRouter: access to the AI models that read and test your resume and write for you.
• RapidAPI (JSearch by OpenWeb Ninja): job listings and salary estimates. It receives the job title, place, and country you search for. It does not receive your name or your resume.
• Jooble: more job listings, asked when the first source finds nothing. It receives the same search words and place, and nothing else.
• Browserbase: the cloud browser that opens application forms for Auto Apply. Your resume PDF and your answers pass through it when a form is filled in.
• DigitalOcean: the servers that host the website.

5. Employers

When you approve an application on the Auto Apply page, we send your resume PDF and your answers to the application form of that employer. The form is usually run by the employer's hiring software, such as Greenhouse, Lever, or Ashby.

From then on, the employer handles that data under its own privacy policy. We cannot take an application back or delete it from the employer's systems.

We send nothing to an employer unless you approve that application. The Apply button on a job only opens the employer's page. It sends nothing from us.

6. How long we keep it

• A resume stays until you delete it. Deleting a resume removes its file, its details, and its report.
• Saved jobs, cover letters, practice sessions, application answers, and the Auto Apply list stay until you delete them or your account is deleted.
• Job search results are kept, so that the same search does not have to run again. They hold no personal data.
• Your account stays until you ask us to delete it. We then remove the account and everything stored for it.
• Payment records are kept as long as the law requires.

7. Your choices and rights

• You can see and edit your resume details at any time.
• You can download your original file and your PDF.
• You can delete a resume, saved jobs, cover letters, practice sessions, and applications in the app. To delete your whole account, write to us.
• You can turn the daily search of Auto Apply on and off at any time.
• Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to get a copy of your data, to correct it, to object to its use, or to complain to your data protection authority. In Hungary, this is the Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH). Contact us to use these rights.

8. Cookies and browser storage

We use only the cookies needed to keep you logged in and to keep the site secure. We do not use advertising cookies.

The app also keeps a few settings in your browser, such as the colors, the defaults of the job search, and your last search. They stay on your device.

9. Security

Your files are stored privately and tied to your account. Only you can open them. Data is sent over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise that a breach will never happen.

10. Children

ResumeTester is not for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. When we do, we change the date at the top of this page. For large changes, we tell you by email or in the app.
